Press Release -
Three employees at Gwynedd Forklifts – James Singleton, Aled Parry, and Brian Lamb – are embarking on an endurance cycling challenge this June to raise funds for Rekindle in Newtown, Powys.
James, Aled, and Brian will cycle over 200 miles and climb more than 10,000 feet as they pedal the length of Wales, from Cardiff to Holyhead, on the 20th and 21st of June 2025. They say:
“It’s a tough challenge, but we’re doing it to support Rekindle – an amazing charity that helps young people with mental health, resilience, and opportunities for a brighter future.”
Rekindle is a mental health charity based in Newtown. Since 1997, they have supported young people aged 16 to 25 living across Mid Wales and the Shropshire Borders, who may be experiencing – or are at risk of experiencing – poor mental health. They offer a free, wrap-around service that combines counselling with practical support on issues such as homelessness, education, employment, self-care, and developing life skills. They also address social isolation, and run a weekly ‘hub’ that offers drop-in support and a range of group activities, including art, cooking, woodwork, music, horse riding, badminton, and workshops on topics such as budgeting, mindfulness, and CV writing.
Rekindle and Gwynedd Forklifts connected last year after Rekindle supported a young woman to access a forklift training course, helping her enhance her career prospects.Service Delivery Manager, Lizzie Cockle, says:
“We are thrilled that James, Aled, and Brian from Gwynedd Forklifts have chosen to support Rekindle for their annual fundraising challenge. We’re looking forward to meeting the cyclists on the 21st of June, when they’ll have a well-deserved pit stop and some refreshments in Newtown, halfway through their challenge. We’re also delighted that their company, Gwynedd Forklifts Ltd, will match every donation – doubling the impact of each one towards Rekindle’s work.”
The cyclists shared how their training is going:
“We’re all out training each week – which is glorious in the sunshine, but not quite so nice when it’s raining! We’ve got two upcoming training rides planned: a 50-mile route around the hills of Lake Vyrnwy and another 50-mile loop through the mountains of Snowdonia.
We’re very excited to take on the challenge, but we also respect its difficulty and know that preparation will be crucial to ensure we all achieve our goal.
On behalf of all three of us, we truly feel that being able to stay in touch and see the direct impact of the donations we raise – and how they genuinely change young people’s lives – makes every mile and every challenge completely worthwhile.”
